Cardiology
Department of Cardiology at Bansal hospital, Shahpura, Bhopal started in the year 2013, along with the the hospital. The Department was established under the able leadership of Dr Skand Kumar Trivedi, Senior cardiologist of more than 35 years standing in the profession.
He is a graduate and postgraduate from Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sewagram, Wardha, Maharashtra. He pursued his fellowship in Cardiology (DM) from prestigious Christian Medical College and Hospital, (CMCH) Vellore (Tamil Nadu), with University Gold Medal (MGR Medical university) , in the year 1995.
Subsequently he Worked as Senior Lecturer, in the Department of cardiology, at CMCH, Vellore. Subsequently he worked as Cardiologist at Social Insurance Hospital Riyadh, KSA, and then as an associate professor of cardiology at Miraj medical Mission, Miraj, District Sangli (Maharashtra). Subsequently, he joined Bhopal Memorial Hospital & Research centre (BMHRC), Bhopal as Professor and Head for 13 years, before joining Bansal Hospital, Bhopal, as a Senior Cardiologist.
Dr Skand Trivedi, has pioneered the field interventional cardiology in the state of Madhya Pradesh. He has been working in the state of the Madhya Pradesh from year 2000. He was instrumental in starting the Department of Cardiology at BMHRC, in the year 2000. He also started fellowship course in Cardiology (DNB- Diplomat of National Board), for the first time in Central India while working at BMHRC in the year 2006.
He was also instrumental in starting technical courses for cardiac cath lab, ECG and echocardiography technicians at BMHRC. He was instrumental in starting interventional cardiology in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
He has many laurels to his credit like starting coronary angioplasty program, balloon mitral valve (BMV), Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty (BAV), Balloon Pulmonary Valvuloplasty (BPV), Coarctoplasty, handling patient with Congenital heart disease, carotid angioplasty, peripheral angioplasty, renal angioplasty.
Single-Chamber Pacemaker, Dual-Chamber Pacemaker, cardiac re-synchronisation therapy, Automatic Internal Cardioverter Defibrillator (AICD), cardiac resynchronisation therapy with defibrillator (CRT-D) device implantation, cardiac examination therapy with pacemaker (CRT-P) Electrophysiological study (EPS) and Radiofrequency Ablation (RF), for cardiac arrhythmias for the first time in the state of Madhya Pradesh. He has a number of publications in various National and international prestigious journals.
He is an active member of association of physicians of India, cardiology Society of India, Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) since 2002 and Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) since 2004. He is a versatile Cardiologist trained in managing adults, pediatrics, electrophysiology, heart failure, echocardiography and clinical cardiology cases.
The Department of Cardiology at Bansal hospital, has a state of the heart facility for dealing with patients of almost all Cardiac diseases. 18 bedded coronary care unit with Central monitoring for patient hemodynamic, ECG and Telemetry. All patients can be telemetrically monitored all over the hospital building, through a wireless network. Coronary care unit (CCU) is manned by a qualified staff round-the-clock.
It also has a dedicated Echocardiography(ECHO) machine (Philips CX 50) with facility for bedside adult and pediatric trans esophageal echocardiography (TEE), ECG machine (Space Lab), intra-aortic balloon counter-pulsation(IABP) from Datascope, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and a dedicated isolation facility for heart transplantation with HEPA filter. The coronary care boasts of comprehensive cardiac monitored with embedded PC (Mindray – T8) with facility to review the picture archiving system (PACS) and the lab information system (LIS) in the patient monitored itself .
The care unit also has 6 dedicated ventilators (Maque servo i) and non-invasive continuous pulmonary artery pressure machines(CPAP). It has facility for transcutaneous (Mindray DF 6), transvenous temporary pacemaker (TPI) and External Defibrillator and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).
Invasive laboratory:
The Cardiac Catheterisation lab of Bansal Hospital has a full-time dedicated cardiac cath lab from Philips medical, FD 20 model. The cath lab has the a resolution of 2K x 2K, best in the industry. This is complemented by the state of art haemodynamic monitoring, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and electrophysiology (EP) lab from St Jude Medical.
The department performs about 200-250 procedures every month mainly comprising of coronary angiography, cardiac angiography, coronary angioplasty, cardiac stenting, closure of the holes in the heart, radiofrequency ablation for (irregular heartbeats) arrhythmias, both single and dual-chamber pacemaker implantations, heart failure devices, defibrillators, peripheral and carotid angioplasty, renal artery angioplasty, 4 vessel cerebral angiography, embolisation of intracranial aneurysms and other procedures.
Cardiac cath lab also has facility for physiological measurements of flow with the help of Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) technology and for difficult coronary angioplasty facility for Rotablator and shock wave lithotripsy is also available.
Non-invasive cardiology lab:
Non-invasive cardiology lab comprises of designated separate male and female areas with facilities for electrocardiography, echocardiography, exercise stress test, transoesophageal echocardiogram, 24 hours Holter monitor, 7 days Holter-monitor, 48 hours Holter monitor, 6 minutes walk test (6MWT) for cardiopulmonary exercise testing, adult and pediatric trans oesophageal echocardiography, DOBUTAMINE stress echocardiography (DSE), three-dimensional (3D Echo) echocardiography and longitudinal strain echocardiography.
Non-invasive lab have a state of the art ECG machine from space lab, IE 33 echocardiography machine from Philips, HD 11 echocardiography machine from Philips, exercise stress test (Marquette Case 12) from GE, Holter monitor from space lab and GE, Ambulatory BP (ABP) machine from GE and space lab. All the non-invasive equipments are connected to space lab ‘Sentinel’ software with facility to interrogate and edit the parameters all over the hospital through hospital information system and picture archiving system.
Non invasive lab data is also available through the remote receiver in the doctor’s mobile phone. The non-invasive lab is managed by a dedicated non-invasive cardiology consultant, resident and 8 qualified technicians.
Department of Cardiology is also complemented by Department of Nuclear Medicine with facility for thallium viability and stress test. 128 slice SPECT CT scanner for FDG viability studies from Philips medical (Gemini); and in coordination with Department of Radiology facility for cardiac MRI ( contrast and non contrast) screening for various cardiac imaging needs. Three Tesla Philips MRI scan (Acheiva) with dedicated cardiac coils is used for cardiac imaging.
In association with Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) carries out cardiac rehabilitation program with facility for Enhanced external counter pulsation (EECP) , a non-invasive treatment modality for patient with symptomatic coronary artery disease, who may not be amenable for revascularization therapy in the form of coronary angioplasty or coronary artery bypass graft surgery; or for patients with refractory heart failure; or for patients who do not like to undergo any of them is a procedure as an alternate medicine.
The Department of Cardiology is a recognized centre for fellowship program in cardiology under National board of examination (DNB) since year 2019.
